La industria del vino y la viticultura en Castilla y León: Su incidencia en el paisaje y en el desarrollo rural

Abstract

La industria del vino y la viticultura en Castilla y León tiene una importancia económica, social y cultural que se prolonga a lo largo de la historia. El cultivo de la vid y su posterior transformación en vino, ha ido adquiriendo cada vez mayor importancia en las comarcas vitivinícolas de esta región. En esta investigación se realiza una reconstrucción histórica de esta actividad económica en Castilla y León con el objetivo de ver su arraigo, evolución y distribución en este territorio, desde su aparición, hasta la aprobación de las diferentes figuras de calidad, y en especial de las denominaciones de origen protegidas, que han marcado un antes y un después en esta industria agroalimentaria, y en concreto la de Ribera del Duero y Rueda, convirtiéndose en uno de los pilares del desarrollo rural en numerosas localidades productoras de vino. Por lo tanto, la industria vitivinícola se consolida como uno de los motores económicos de esta comunidad autónoma, capaz de diversificar el tejido económico y empresarial de una región caracterizada por el fuerte peso del sector primario, con la expansión de las actividades tradicionales, así como la aparición de otras nuevas que tienen en el vino y en el mundo que lo rodea el principal apoyo para su funcionamiento. Asociado al avance y a las mejoras acaecidas en esta actividad, han tenido lugar una serie de transformaciones en el paisaje tradicional de la vid y el vino, que han introducido nuevos elementos, al mismo tiempo que han hecho desaparecer otros, conviviendo, en algunas ocasiones, la tradición con la modernidad.

The wine industry and viticulture in Castilla y León has an economic, social and cultural significance with a long history. The production of grapes, and their subsequent transformation into wine, has gained increasing importance in the wine districts of this region. This thesis presents a historical reconstruction of this economic activity in the region of Castilla y León, Spain, in order to better understand its origin, evolution and distribution in this territory, from its beginnings to the use of of different quality indicators. Special attention is given to the use of the protected denominations of origin which has marked a turning point in this agricultural industry, particularly in the Ribera del Duero and Rueda regions, and has become one of the pillars of rural development in many wine producing villages. For this reason, the wine industry has become one of the economic engines of this region capable of diversifying the economic and business fabric of an area characterized by the heavy weight of the primary sector, with the expansion of traditional activities and the emergence of new ones, based on wine production and its related activities. Associated with the progress and improvements that have occurred in this activity, there has been a number of changes in the traditional landscape of the vine and wine, which have introduced new elements, while others have disappeared, leading, in some cases, to a coexistence of tradition and modernity
