En el panorama decadente de la platería vallisoletana del último tercio del siglo XVIII, se advierte que la Congregación de San Eloy, la cofradía gremial, sigue defendiendo los intereses de los orfebres vallisoletanos frente a los intrusos, amparándose en las ordenanzas reales de 1771. Hay también en estos momentos otras querellas de interés sociológico.
