La Guerra del Golfo comenzó el 2 agosto de 1990 con la invasión de Kuwait por
parte de Saddam Hussein. La Comunidad internacional intentó resolver el conflicto por
la vía diplomática, pero ante la negativa del dictador iraquí, fue necesaria una
intervención armada liderada por Estados Unidos bajo el amparo de la ONU. Esta fase
militar, que se desarrolló entre el 17 de enero y el 28 de febrero de 1991, será el objeto
de nuestro trabajo que utiliza como fuente el diario español El País. Este periódico
siempre se mostró contrario a la guerra —tal y como transmitió a sus lectores—, y
partidario de que las relaciones internacionales fueran pacíficas.
The Gulf War began on August 2nd 1990, with the invasion of Kuwait by
Saddam Hussein. The international Community tried to resolve the conflict
diplomatically, but the refusal of the Iraqi dictator, required a military intervention
leaded by the USA by the aegis from NU. This phase, from 17th January to 28th
February 1991, will be the subject of our work. The information was sourced from the
main Spanish daily newspaper —El País—, which always said it was against the war
and in favour of peaceful international relations.
