En los últimos años el conocimiento que se tenía sobre el pasado fenicio-púnico de Mallorca
ha aumentado de tal forma gracias a los nuevos hallazgos y estudios sobre el tema que hay
que replantearse la posición de esta isla y el papel que pudo jugar dentro de las rutas
marítimas del Mediterráneo occidental entre los siglos XIV y I a.C., siendo dicho papel más
importante y antiguo de lo que se creía. Dichos estudios permiten relacionar la historia de
Mallorca con los procesos de navegación que se dieron en la antigüedad no solo en Europa
sino en todo el Mediterráneo.
In recent years the knowledge we had about the Phoenician-Punic past of Mallorca has
increased thanks to new findings and studies on the subject that have to rethink the position of
this island and the role that it could play in the sea routes of the Western Mediterranean
between the XV century BC and I century BC, being this role more important and ancient
than previously believed. Such studies allow to relate the history of Mallorca with navigation
processes that occurred in antiquity not only in Europe but throughout the Mediterranean.
