Este acontecimiento histórico ha provocado que la libra se desplome y que los ciudadanos y empresas afincadas en este país se preocupen por lo que pasará los próximos años. El día 29 de marzo de 2017, Theresa May activó el artículo 50 del Tratado de Lisboa, dando inicio a unas negociaciones que, en principio durarán dos años, y que serán clave para establecer la futura relación entre la Unión Europea y el Reino Unido. Los recientes acontecimientos ocurridos en el país tales como, el resultado de las elecciones adelantadas por Theresa May, las elecciones de otros países europeos, la relación con Estados Unidos y los tristes ataques terroristas que han acechado el país, son sólo algunos acontecimientos que están influyendo en la forma en la que se realizará el Brexit y en sus efectos.
