El término empatía puede definirse como la cualidad de ponerse en el lugar del otro
y ha sido reconocida como un elemento clave en la relación enfermera, paciente y
familiar. Una comunicación empática permite entender los sentimientos de la
persona cuidada. Ante el riesgo de deshumanización que sufre el mundo sanitario
actual, se requiere disponer de unos profesionales de Enfermería con empatía para
poder brindar unos cuidados humanizados.
Con este estudio se pretende conocer la percepción que tienen los pacientes,
familiares y los profesionales sobre el cuidado, también se persigue establecer una
relación entre ellos y buscar sugerencias de mejora. Para alcanzar los citados
objetivos, se ha realizado un estudio cualitativo y fenomenológico, con la intención
de comprender la experiencia del sujeto, a una muestra de 20 personas, entre ellas,
7 pacientes, 7 familiares y 6 profesionales de Enfermería. Para la recogida de datos
se han utilizado tres cuestionarios diferentes de elaboración propia.
Los resultados del estudio indican que los pacientes entrevistados tienen una
percepción medianamente favorable, la mayoría perciben unos cuidados
humanizados por parte de los profesionales de Enfermería. Los familiares
manifiestan que ellos también sufren y que deberían tenerles más en cuenta,
mostrando una actitud agradable y empática. Los profesionales de Enfermería
expresan que los cuidados ofrecidos a pacientes y familiares pueden mejorarse,
pero que encuentran dificultades para desarrollar su trabajo.
Concluimos que en la práctica sanitaria es necesario humanizar los cuidados y que
hay acciones que no deberían ser ignoradas por falta de autocrítica. Para ello, los
profesionales de Enfermería debemos seguir trabajando en el desarrollo de una
madurez profesional, tratando a las personas desde una concepción holística y
mostrando una actitud empática en sus cuidados.
The term empathy can be defined as the quality of putting oneself in the place of the
other and has been recognized as a key element in the nurse, patient and family
relationship. An empathic communication allows to understand the feelings of the
person cared for. Faced with the risk of dehumanization suffered by the current
healthcare world, it is necessary to have nursing professionals with empathy to
provide humanized care.
This study aims to know the perception of patients, relatives and professionals about
care, it is also sought to establish a relationship between them and seek suggestions
for improvement. In order to reach the mentioned objectives, a qualitative and
phenomenological study was carried out, with the intention of understanding the
experience of the subject, to a sample of 20 people, among them, 7 patients, 7
relatives and 6 Nursing professionals. For the collection of data, three different
questionnaires have been used.
The results of the study indicate that the patients interviewed have a moderately
favorable perception, the majority perceive a humanized care by the professionals of
Nursing. Family members state that they also suffer and that they should take more
into account, showing a pleasant and empathetic attitude. Nursing professionals say
that the care offered to patients and their families can be improved, but the find it
difficult to carry out their work.
We conclude that in health practice it is necessary to humanize care and that there
are actions that should not be ignored for lack of self-criticism. For this, the
professionals of Nursing must continue working in the development of a professional
maturity, treating people from a holistic conception and showing an empathic attitude
in their care.
