<dcterms:abstract>The formation of an amidino chelating ligand from the coupling reaction of 1-methylcytosine and nitrile is a new method herein reported for the incorporation of biologically relevant substrates into rhenium(I) tricarbonyl complexes. The reactions are carried out thermally or are microwave assisted.</dcterms:abstract>
