An introduction and literature study in aldol condensation, sol-gel science, electrospinning, functionalisation and catalytic activity is given in chapter 1. The development of the different functionalisation methods, post-functionalisation, direct synthesis and coaxial electrospinning is studied in chapters 3, 4 and 5 respectively.
