La Unión Europea ha sufrido los efectos de la crisis crediticia e hipotecaria iniciada en Estados Unidos. Ocasionó terribles consecuencias sobre el empleo, el crecimiento y la inversión y puso de manifiesto la excesiva deuda pública acumulada, sobre todo, en la Zona Euro y las deficiencias de gobernanza económica y financiera. Las autoridades llevaron a cabo medidas, unas más eficaces que otras. Entre ellas, se destacarán la Estrategia Europa 2020, para impulsar el crecimiento y el empleo, y el Plan de Inversiones para Europa, para favorecer la inversión. Desde entonces, el crecimiento de la economía está siendo lento (ciertas variables se sitúan lejos de los objetivos fijados para 2020), pero gradual. Por último, se diagnosticará su futuro teniendo en cuenta los cinco escenarios presentes en el Libro Blanco sobre el futuro de Europa
The European Union has suffered the effects of the credit and mortgage crisis
that began in the United States. It caused terrible consequences on
employment, growth and investment and showed the excessive accumulated
public debt, above all, in the Euro Zone and the deficiencies of economic and
financial governance. The authorities put in place measures, some more
effective than others, among them, the Europe 2020 Strategy, to promote
growth and employment, and the Investment Plan for Europe, to favor
investment. Since then, the growth of the economy is slow (and certain
variables are far from the targets set for 2020), but gradual. Finally, its future will
be diagnosed bearing in mind the five scenarios of the White Paper on the
future of Europe.
