Impresores e imprentas: Fernando Santarén Ramón, eslabón de una saga (1857-1897)

Desde la historia socio-cultural de los impresores y editores se ha realizado un estudio
de la imprenta vallisoletana “Santarén” durante su administración por Fernando Santarén
Ramón, coincidente con su etapa de mayor esplendor radicada en la segunda mitad del siglo
XIX. Junto con la biografía, podemos acercarnos a todos los aspectos relacionados con él y su
negocio, mostrándonos una incipiente burguesía impresora interesada no solo por su
establecimiento sino también por la vida pública y cultural de su ciudad. Publicó periódicos,
libros de toda materia, pliegos y textos religiosos, siendo estos dos últimos los que llevaron a
“Santarén” a ser una de las mayores imprentas de Valladolid y Castilla La Vieja.
From the sociocultural history of printers and editors, an investigation has been carried
out about the printing office “Santarén” during its administration by Fernando Santarén Ramón,
coincident with his most splendorous phase in the second half of the 19th century. With the
help of the biography, we can examine all the aspects in relation to him and his business, it
showing an incipient printer bourgeoisie that is not only interested in their work but also in the
public and cultural life of their city. He published newspapers, books of all type, sheets and
religious texts, the two last ones making “Santarén” one of the most important printing offices
of Valladolid and Castilla La Vieja.
