Este Trabajo de Fin de Máster estudia el éxito y posterior repercusión la adaptación televisiva de
El cuento de la criada (Hulu/HBO, 2017) desde una perspectiva histórica y desde el punto de
vista de la tradición distópica, tanto literaria como audiovisual. Para ello, se ha llevado a cabo una
comparación de las similitudes y diferencias entre la serie y la novela homónima escrita por
Margaret Atwood en 1985, se han analizado las influencias históricas de la autora y el contexto
del estreno de la serie y se ha realizado un estudio de personajes individuales y colectivos.
This Master's Thesis studies the success and subsequent repercussion of the television adaptation
of The Handmaid's Tale (Hulu/HBO, 2017) by attending to a historical perspective and performingo a dystopian tradition, both literary and audiovisual, review. To this purpose, we made a comparison of both the similarities and differences between the series and the homonymous novel written by Margaret Atwood in 1985. Also we did an analysis of the author's historical influences and the context in which the premiere of the series was launched and we carried out a study of both the individual and collective characters in the series.
