El presente trabajo analiza la necesidad de una Unión Bancaria en la zona del euro, sus antecedentes, instrumentos y futuro desarrollo. En primer lugar, se realiza una breve introducción histórica de los orígenes y evolución de la Unión Europea haciendo hincapié en los hitos de la Unión Económica y Monetaria común. A continuación, se analiza la crisis financiera mundial y sus repercusiones en la zona euro para poder entender la Unión Bancaria basada en cuatro elementos esenciales: un Mecanismo Único de Supervisión; un Sistema Único de Resolución; un esquema común de garantía de depósitos, y un código normativo común. Finalmente se hace una breve mención a la hoja de ruta que ha de guiar el futuro de la Unión Económica y Monetaria y a las últimas medidas adoptadas para completar la Unión Bancaria. Por último, se exponen las conclusiones del trabajo
This paper analyzes the need for a Banking Union in the euro
area, its instruments, background and future development. First, it begins with a
brief historical introduction of the origins and evolution of the European Union,
emphasizing the milestones of the Economic and Monetary Union. Next, we
analyze the global financial crisis and its repercussions in the euro area in order
to understand the Banking Union based on four essential elements: a Single
Supervisory Mechanism; a Single Resolution Mechanism; a European deposit
insurance scheme, and a single rulebook. Finally, a brief study is made of the
roadmap that will guide the future of the Economic and Monetary Union and the
recent steps taken towards completing the Banking Union. Lastly, the
conclusions of the work are presented.
