Los mundos temporal, religioso y espiritual de un mercader castellano del siglo XVI: Simón Ruiz

El contraste que surge entre las dos parcelas personales de un mercader-banquero del siglo
XVI, la mundana o temporal en contraposición a la religiosa y espiritual, es la base de este trabajo
que trata de mostrar cómo era ese mundo de los mercaderes, así como las consecuencias que tenían
sus actividades comerciales y financieras sobre algo muy estimable en el ser humano como era su
conciencia, su percepción de la búsqueda de méritos para el tránsito hacia el “más allá”. Simón Ruiz
supone una pieza clave en ese análisis, pues nos permite conocerle mejor a través de su archivo y
amplia correspondencia.
The contrast that arises between the two personal plots of a merchant-banker of the 16th
century, the mundane or temporary one as opposed to the religious and spiritual, is the basis of this
work that tries to show what that world of merchants was like, as well as the consequences of their
comercial and financial activities about something very valuable in the human being as was his
conscience, his perception of the search for merits for the transit to the ultraworld. Simón Ruiz is a
key piece in that analisys. It allows us to know him better through his file and extensive
correspondence.
