La actual crisis sanitaria ha afectado en mayor medida a países en vías de desarrollo, siendo América Latina y el Caribe la región más golpeada por los efectos negativos de la pandemia. Ante el escenario actual y por su fundamentación, los microcréditos se han convertido por parte tanto de los gobiernos, como de las instituciones microfinancieras (IMFs), en un importante vehículo para llegar a las poblaciones con pocos recursos y suavizar las consecuencias que han tenido para ellos la crisis sanitaria. Por otra parte, estos productos financieros también han servido de ayuda a muchas Pymes para poder sobrevivir a los elevados costes que han supuesto para ellas las medidas adoptadas por los diferentes gobiernos para frenar la expansión del virus. Pero la crisis sanitaria también trajo consigo amenazas dentro del sector financiero, por lo que las instituciones microfinancieras tuvieron que adaptarse y reinventarse a través de su oferta y demanda para poder sobrevivir. This paper investigates the role of microcredits as a tool against the increase in poverty caused by Covid-19 in Colombia. The current health crisis has affected developing countries to a greater extent, with Latin America and the Caribbean being the region hardest hit by the negative effects of the pandemic. Given the current scenario and due to its foundations, microcredits have become by both governments and microfinance institutions (IMFs) an important vehicle to reach populations with few resources and soften the consequences of the health crisis.
