La intervención de la OTAN en Kosovo entre marzo y junio de 1999 supuso no solo el capítulo final del proceso de destrucción de Yugoslavia, sino que también fue clave para la consolidación del Nuevo Orden Mundial y terminó de definir el nuevo papel de la Alianza Atlántica. El propósito de este trabajo es conocer el tratamiento informativo que dio el diario El País a estos hechos. A través del análisis de las portadas y de los artículos editoriales conoceremos la postura y los argumentos del periódico, en general favorables a la intervención armada. Podremos comprender así el apoyo que la opinión pública española otorgó a la primera intervención armada de la OTAN en toda su historia.
NATO’s intervention in Kosovo between March and June 1999 entailed not only the final chapter of the destruction of Yugoslavia but was also key to the consolidation of the New World Order and ended up defining the new role of the Atlantic Alliance. The purpose of this paper is to know the news coverage that the newspaper El País gave to these events. Through the analysis of the front pages and the editorial articles, we will learn about the position and arguments of the newspaper, generally in favour of the armed intervention. In this way, we will be able to understand the support that Spanish public opinion gave to the first armed intervention by NATO in its entire history.
