El presente trabajo parte del papel que desempeña el medio televisivo, uno de los
principales canales de entretenimiento e influencia en nuestra sociedad, y aborda la
forma en la que las diferentes orientaciones no normativas son representadas dentro
de la ficción televisiva. Esta investigación se focaliza en las producciones británica
y americana de la serie ‘Queer as Folk’, ficción convertida en un fenómeno mundial
gracias a la cual se dio voz al colectivo, como principal punto de ruptura y cambio
en la visibilización dada a la comunidad LGTB+. De esta forma, el consiguiente
estudio va a referenciar, en primer lugar, la evolución dada en materia de la
representación homosexual presente en series de televisión previas al objeto
principal de estudio y, posteriormente, va a abordar las características, estrategias
narrativas y mecanismos discursivos desarrollados en ‘Queer as Folk’ mediante un
análisis de contenido cualitativo y dos análisis de carácter cuantitativo que permitan
analizar y comprender el producto audiovisual en profundidad.

This paper draws from the role played by television as a channel of
entertainment and influence in our society, addressing the way in which different
non-normative sexual orientations are represented in television fiction. This
research focuses on the British and American productions of the series Queer as
Folk, fiction that has become a worldwide phenomenon that succeeded in giving
a voice to the collective, as the main point of rupture and change in the visibility
given to the LGBT community. For that purpose, firstly, the study will make
reference to the evolution of homosexual representation in television series prior
to the main object of study and, subsequently, it will address the characteristics,
narrative strategies, and discursive mechanisms developed in Queer as Folk by
means of a qualitative content analysis and two quantitative analyses that will
allow us to analyse and understand the audiovisual product in depth.
