En este trabajo de fin de grado se realiza un breve análisis de la primera parte del
manuscrito de fray Matías de Sobremonte conservado en la Biblioteca Nacional de
España con el n.º 19351. Tras estudiar el autor, el contexto y la materialidad del códice,
se pasa a explorar cómo el franciscano elabora su historia, analizando los documentos y
libros que emplea y la estructura del relato. Seguidamente, el trabajo se centra en el
manuscrito como fuente histórica, estudiando cómo se ha utilizado desde el siglo XVII
hasta la actualidad.
The present work offers an analysis of the first part of Fr. Matías de Sobremonte’s
manuscript, nowadays kept at the National Library in Madrid. After studying the author,
the context, and the material aspects of the manuscript, it explores how the Franciscan
friar constructs his historical narrative, analysing the way he uses documents and books
as sources and the way he organises his discourse. Next, the essay pays attention to the
manuscript as a historical source, studying how it has been used since the seventeenth
century until present times.
