A lo largo de la historia las cuevas han sido un lugar natural de refugio para los seres humanos. Estas se han convertido en una fuente de información vital para poder interpretar la historia más antigua de la humanidad y, en algunos casos, la reciente. El paso de San Adrián destaca por su amplio registro cronológico, sirviendo de estancia a los cazadores-recolectores del Paleolítico prolongándose este uso hasta el siglo XIX. La calzada que lo atraviesa y la condición de frontera territorial han convertido este lugar en un punto de referencia para entender la historia de las regiones montañosas interiores de Guipúzcoa
Throughout history caves have been a natural place pf refuge for human beings. These have become an important source of infromation to be able to interpret the oldest history of mankind and, in some cases, the recent one. The walkway across San Adrian stands out for it`s extensive chronological register, it served as a haven for the hunter-gatherers of the Paleolithic period, lasting with this use until the 19th century. The road that crosses it and the condition of territorial border have made this place a point of reference to understand the history of the inland mountain regions of Guipuzcoa.
