La sexualidad ha sido siempre un tabú y un tema controvertido en el ámbito eclesiástico.
Esa es la razón por la que las patologías relacionadas con el ámbito sexual padecidas por
miembros de la Iglesia fueron interpretadas como otro tipo de enfermedades, en un intento
de preservar su dignidad monástica. El objetivo de este trabajo es analizar la curatio 4.36,
recogida en la magna obra Curationum medicinalium centuriae septem del médico
portugués Amato Lusitano, que se ocupa de un caso de mola en una monja de clausura.
Este trabajo se ha dividido en cuatro partes: una primera introducción a la figura y obra
de Amato, un pequeño recorrido por los saberes ginecológicos antiguos, medievales y
renacentistas, la edición y traducción de la curatio 4.36 y, finalmente, un comentario
sobre ella.
Sexuality has always been a taboo and a controversial topic in the ecclesiastical sphere.
That is why the pathologies related to the sexual field suffered by members of the Church
were interpreted as other types of diseases, in an attempt to preserve their monastic
dignity. The aim of this work is to analyze the curatio 4.36, collected in the great work
Curationum medicinalium centuriae septem of the Portuguese physician Amato Lusitano,
who deals with a case of mola in a cloistered nun. This work has been divided into four
parts: a first introduction to the figure and work of Amato, a short tour of ancient,
medieval and Renaissance gynecological knowledge, the edition and translation of
curatio 4.36 and, finally, a commentary on it.
