En esta investigación se analiza el tratamiento de la pandemia de la COVID-19 en el
diario The Times a través de sus portadas y el tratamiento en sus piezas en la web, durante
los meses de marzo, abril y primeros seis días de mayo de 2020. Se recurre al análisis de
las portadas del medio durante el periodo determinado y el estudio de las variables en las
piezas periodísticas que abordan información del virus en el formato web del diario. Este
trabajo se centra en la forma en la que se comunican los acontecimientos acaecidos
durante la pandemia del coronavirus en el Reino Unido, permitiendo estudiar cómo ha
abordado un medio inglés la crisis sanitaria que ha causado impacto a nivel global
prácticamente sin precedentes. Los resultados y conclusiones muestran que la
información de la COVID-19 gana protagonismo y ocupa más espacio dentro del diario
con el paso de las semanas. También se puede apreciar, tras el análisis de las portadas y
las piezas en la web, que los asuntos abordados por parte del diario y la manera de tratarlos
son susceptibles de verse alterados en base al desarrollo de los acontecimientos, amén de
las posibles influencias de las diferentes visiones políticas.
This research analyzes the treatment of the COVID-19 pandemic in The Times newspaper
through it is front pages and the treatment in it is pieces on the web, during the months of
March, April and the first six days of May 2020. The analysis of the front pages of the
newspaper during the determined period and the study of the variables in the journalistic
pieces that deal with information on the virus in the web format of the newspaper are
used. This work focuses on the way in which the events that took place during the
coronavirus pandemic in the United Kingdom are communicated, making it possible to
study how an English medium has dealt with a health crisis that has caused an almost
unprecedented global impact. The results and conclusions show that the COVID-19
information gains prominence and occupies more space in the newspaper as the weeks
go by. It can also be seen, after the analysis of the front pages and the pieces on the web,
that the issues addressed by the newspaper and the way they are dealt with are likely to
be altered based on the development of events, in addition to the possible influences of
the different political visions.
