El presente trabajo pretende realizar un breve estudio sobre los circos romanos en la
provincia Citerior o Tarraconense, desde el siglo I d.C., cuando surgen las primeras fundaciones
de estos edificios, hasta el siglo V, ocaso definitivo de los ludi circenses, juegos que gozaron
de gran afición por parte de los hispanos de la época. Para ello se ha realizado en primer lugar
una descripción de los edificios circenses de la Citerior que cuentan con restos constructivos, a
los que añaden después otras evidencias iconográficas o epigráficas que complementan la
información proporcionada por los restos arquitectónicos. Se concluye con una valoración
conjunta de estos edificios en la Citerior.
This Work tries to do a brief study about roman circus in the Citerior province or
Tarraconense, from I century A.C., when the first fundations of this buildings emerge, to V
Century, the final decline of ludi circenses, games that had a great support among people of this
period. First a description of the circenses building of the Citerior that have constructive
remains have been made, adding after that other iconographic and epigraphic evidneces that
complement the information giving by the architectonic remains. The work is concluyed by a
combined valoration of this buildings in the Citerior.
