Facultad de Ciencias Radiofísica Radioterapia Braquiterapia Electrómetro La braquiterapia es una técnica radioterapéutica cuyo uso para tratamiento de ciertos tumores está en pleno crecimiento. Los principales materiales del que hace uso esta técnica son los radioisótopos. Estos serán accesibles en forma de semillas recubiertas, comúnmente llamadas fuentes. Estos radioisótopos serán los responsables de irradiar (ya sea de forma permanente o durante un intervalo de tiempo) la zona que ocupa u ocupó dicho tumor. Por lo que es de elevada importancia la calibración y verificación de estas fuentes (su actividad) a usar en Braquiterapia, con el fin de llegar a tratar la mayor zona dañada por el cáncer, pero protegiendo e irradiando lo menos posible las zonas sanas y órganos del cuerpo del paciente. Por otro lado, durante el proceso de verificación es fundamental la calibración del detector de pozo, el cual adosa el inserto donde se colocará la fuente. Brachyterapy is a radiation therapy ttechnique whose use for the treatment of certain tumors is growing. The main materials used in this technique are radioisotopes. These radiosiotopes will be responsable for irradiating (permanently or for an interval of time) the area that occupies or occupied the tumor. Therefore, it is very important to calíbrate and verify these sources (their activity) to beusd in Brachytherapy, in order to treat the most area damaged by cáncer, but protecting and irradiating as little as posible the healthy areas and organs of the patient´s body. On the other hand, during this verification process it is essential to calíbrate the well detector, which attaches the insert where the source will be placed.
