El Tribunal del Jurado una institución jurídica que permite a los ciudadanos participar
directamente en el proceso judicial. Este sistema tiene sus raíces históricas en la antigua
Grecia y Roma y se consolidó en Inglaterra con la Carta Magna de 1215.
En España, la figura del jurado ha evolucionado desde sus primeros antecedentes en la Ley
de Imprenta de 1820, pasando por varias etapas legislativas y múltiples reformas, hasta la
promulgación de la actual Ley Orgánica del Tribunal del Jurado en 1995. La LOTJ define el
marco legal para la formación, composición y funcionamiento del jurado, estableciendo
requisitos específicos como la mayoría de edad, la nacionalidad española y la residencia en el
territorio. A pesar de promover la participación democrática y la transparencia judicial, el
Tribunal del Jurado ha sido objeto de críticas. Estas incluyen la posible influencia del juez en
las deliberaciones del jurado, la contaminación por los medios de comunicación y la
percepción de falta de preparación de los jurados para casos complejos, lo que subraya la
necesidad de reformas para mejorar su imparcialidad y eficacia.
El objetivo del Tribunal del Jurado es acercar la justicia al pueblo, promoviendo la
participación ciudadana en los procesos judiciales y fortaleciendo la transparencia e
imparcialidad del sistema judicial.
The Jury Court is a legal institution that allows citizens to directly participate in the judicial
process. This system has historical roots in ancient Greece and Rome and was solidified in

The goal of the Jury Court is to bring justice closer to the people, promoting citizen
participation in judicial processes and strengthening the transparency and impartiality of the
judicial system.
