Fragile X Syndrome (FXS) is considered the leading cause of inherited intellectual disability
and is known as a neurodevelopmental disorder whose main feature is intellectual disability,
although people with FXS also tend to have a distinctive physical and behavioral phenotype.
However, as it will be possible to discover throughout the theoretical framework of the present
work, it was not util the 90s when scientific investigations came to study the etiology of this
disorder and, therefore, the consequences and/or repercussions on the different areas of
development. For this reason and due to the scarce training on attention to diversity of most the
teachers of Compulsory Secondary Education because they are specialists in the subjects they
teach, students with Fragile X Syndrome may not receive the most appropriate response to all
your educational needs.
For this reason, in this Master´s Thesis (TFM) a theoretical analysis will be made on the Fragile
X Syndrome and on the precedents of the inclusive school model on which we have been in
Spain for not long, thus verifying that we still have a lot left there is still a way to go and many
teachers to be sensitized about attention to diversity and more specifically about FXS so that,
not only specialists in Therapeutic Pedagogy, Hearing and Language and other specific
professionals know how to respond to the needs of this type of student, rather, it is all the
teachers who intervene in the teaching – learning process of the students who participate and
cooperate so that the students develop their capacities to the maximum. To achieve this, the
intervention of the educational guidance teams and departments is essential and for this reason,
a proposal for educational intervention will be proposed aimed mainly at teachers, enrolled in
the 1st year of Secondary Education, since two students with FXS will join it. Finally, a final
reflection will be made considering the theoretical part and the practical part of this work.
