Nowadays, one of the most interesting tools for studying the physical state of photovoltaic panels is the electroluminescence (EL) technique, which allows to detect with great detail the defects present in the solar cells forming the panel, and therefore the state of degradation of the panels under study, directly related to their performance. A voltage source is typically used to bias the panels during the EL measurements. In this article, however, the substitution of this source for a bidirectional inverter is analyzed, obtaining results that show clear advantages of working with these kinds of devices. The benefits that have been obtained go through the simplification of the measurement process, the increase in security and the improvement in the remote monitoring of inspections.
