This paper aims to reflect on the use of impersonal mechanisms as mitigating devices in trials. Given the nature of the courtroom discourse, it is common to find items and constructions to conceal any of the participants in the trial. It also delves into the characterization of this phenomenon by setting the polyphonic structure of the studied mechanisms in order to assess whether it allows to arrange them in a scale or whether, on the contrary, it is necessary to seek new criteria.
