Prolis Flainiz.
This work examines the avatars of the Flaínez family, perhaps the most outstanding of the nobility of
León, until the middle of the 12th century. It has as a backdrop the evolution of the kingdom. The
presentation consists of seven epigraphs, arranged mainly according to the leonese political history
and the rhythm of the generations. The initial of them inquires into the origins of the group. The
second deals with the period 940-1000, while the Flaínez remain in the shadow of the Counts of Cea;
although in the decade before the turn of the millennium, Flaín Muñoz reaches the title of count. The
third epigraph covers the reigns of Alfonso V and Vermudo III; it is characterized by intense conflict
(1000-1037). In 1038, the advent of the Navarrese dynasty initiates the fourth, which covers the times
of Ferdinand I; his balance is contradictory. However, the following period reflects the fullness of the
kinship at the time of Alfonso VI (1066-1109). But it ends tragically, linking with the image of deep
social crisis that presides over the sixth period, the reign of Urraca (1109-1126), which also contains
a moment of transition for the Flaínez. The seventh last epigraph has a transverse character. It deals
with the representations and behaviors of the family.
