AB The present study aims to analyse the subtitling into Spanish of the German film “The Lives of Others” written and directed by Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck. The research will be focussed on the examination of the cultural references of the film. Furthermore, our investigation will be figured out from the perspective of the intellectual people of the German Democratic Republic.The cultural nature, together with the theoretical and practical part of the study will enable us to perceive the way the cultural references of the film are treated in Spanish and German, as well as the techniques used for their translation. Finally, this all will permit us to appreciate if the cultural transfer from the Original Version has been respected in the Spanish Subtitled Version.
