AB This paper aims at analysing the emergence and relevance of the Fund for Structural Convergence (FOCEM) for the integration process of the MERCOSUR. The first item shows the context that has encouraged the expansion of the objectives of the block, with the incorporation of social cohesion. The second section explains the features of the FOCEM. The third section briefly explains the importance of Cohesion Policy of the European Union. Finally, the last item emphasises the political relevance of the FOCEM.
