The main purpose of this work has been the design and validation of a chess test in order to determine the level and skills of the nine to twelve years old players at the end of the chess match. Thus, following the phases of construction, validations by experts, initial adjustments, piloting and statistical analysis based on the classical test theory, it was found that the test met the requirements to be accurate, trustworthy and valid The test is intended to be a very useful tool, since it allows assessing and checking the initial level of the non - experienced player; in this sense, teachers and trainers are the most beneficiaries of this tool. Furthermore, it is also intended to be used in further research. However, the tool has to be proven with a larger sample to verify that it fulfills the requirements of objectivity, sensitivity, reliability and validation.
