The fissioning cluster is continuouslydeformed from the parent configuration until it splits into two fragments. Although theshape of the fission barrier obviously depends on the parametrization of the fission path, we havefound that remarkably, the maximum of the barrier corresponds to a configuration in which theemerging fragments are already formed and rather well apart. The implication of this finding in thecalculation of critical numbers for fission is illustrated in the case of multiply charged Na clusters PB The American Physical Society YR 1995 FD 1995 LK http://uvadoc.uva.es/handle/10324/2507 UL http://uvadoc.uva.es/handle/10324/2507 LA eng NO Physical Review B, v. 51, n. 3, (1995) p. 1897-1901 NO Producción Científica DS UVaDOC RD 19-abr-2024
