Facultad de Educación y Trabajo Social AB The present dissertation approaches social networks and their use in Secondary Education, particularly in the English as a Second Language Subject. There is not a shade of doubt that social media are an important part of people’s lives nowadays, and, perhaps the extent of this importance is greater within teenagers, since personal relationships appear to gain significance during adolescence. On account of this fact, the incorporation of social networks in Education seems logical. However, even if there is a lot of investigation regarding the advantages and disadvantages of Information and Communication Technologies at school in general, the truth is that little research has been done as for their effects in the use of language. For that reason, this work seeks to study whether social networks help improve communicative skills in a foreign language, focusing on the writing competence in ESL.
