I want to see if it is possible to use neuroticism as a category of analysis when studying lyrical subjects. For this, I try to detect the textual indicators of neuroticism. Textual production of Sylvia Plath’s and Alejandra Pizarnik’s lyrical subject is analyzed on the basis of the theory of self-characterization. Direct and indirect techniques of self-characterization help me to explore how the reader constructs the lyrical subject. Eventually, the textual inscription of both lyrical subjects is put into comparison to show how it is possible to shed light on a theory based on textual indicators common to all neurotic lyrical subjects.
