Moreover, it also addresses if Edgar Allan Poe’s style of narrative had an important influence in the writing of this bestseller novel. In the theoretical part of the thesis, the biographies of Stephen King and Edgar Allan Poe are included together with an introduction to the Horror Genre. The main part of the thesis centers its attention on the contrastive analysis of Edgar Allan Poe’s adaptation of Gothic elements and both The Masque of the Red Death by E. A. Poe and Stephen King’s The Shining, providing a deeper analysis on the last best-seller writing.
