AB Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland (1865) and Through the Looking Glass (1871) are Lewis Carroll’s most famous works and two of the most challenging pieces of literature to translate, due to the great linguistic complexity that their multiple word plays, puns, and neologisms render. The main aim of this paper is to observe the evolution of the translation of neologisms by comparing two Spanish translations of Carroll’s works published in 1986 and 1999, respectively. Results intend to offer an example on the evolution of the way in which translators approach neologisms in the translation of literature, demonstrating that the field of translation evolves hand in hand with the gradual development of language.
