RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 Control of Molecular weight and polydispersity in polyethylene/needle-like shaped clay nanocomposites obtained by in situ polymerization with metallocene catalysts A1 Herrero Villar, Manuel A1 Núñez Carrero, Karina Carla A1 Gallego Castro, Raúl A1 Merino Senovilla, Juan Carlos A1 Pastor Barajas, José María AB In an effort to understand the influence of the shape and area of the nanoclay type used inthe in situ polymerization process, two different types of clays (fibrillar and laminar) wereemployed to obtain nanocomposites. The preliminary results demonstrated that a needlelikeshaped clay promotes higher molar mass and better mechanical properties comparedwith laminar clay. The ultra-high molecular weight of sepiolite/nanocomposites introducessignificant problems with processability. Therefore, a new method of polymerization wasdesigned to include two significant changes. The first change was related to the use of anon-isothermal temperature profile and the second to the addition of an additional amountof non-anchored co-catalyst leading to materials with higher fluidity.
