First of all a theoret-ical model is elaborated considering an analytical framework of involuntary unemployment in which the hypotheses of the added and the discouraged worker are included. Taking this model as the starting point, an empirical analysis is then carried out using cointegration tech-niques to elaborate unemployment rates which are unbiased with regard to the cyclical evolution of the female labor force.JEL classification: J16, J21, J22, J64.
