For this task, fiveminutes of spontaneous electroencephalographic (EEG) activityfrom 22 patients with mild AD and 16 cognitively healthycontrols were studied. To assess PAC patterns, phase-lockingvalue was computed between the phase of low frequencies andthe power of high frequencies within each sensor. Our resultsshowed that high-frequency gamma power is phase-locked tothe alpha peak in EEG signals. Furthermore, statisticallysignificant differences (p<0.05, permutation test) betweenpatients with mild AD and elderly controls were observed atthe lower left temporo-parietal area, suggesting that earlystages of AD elicit a region-specific decrease of PAC in theneural activity.
