AB This undergraduate dissertation presents a grammatical study on the production of what andwhen by English native speakers. It presents a double comparison regarding two childgroups that have been MLU-matched (i.e. typically developed children (TD) and childrenwith specific impairment (SLI)) and two data types (i.e. narrative and spontaneous). Theanalysis deals with the production of what and when both as isolated words and as part ofwh-questions and wh-relative clauses. The results of the study reveal that the production ofwhen children is higher than that of what in the case of the TD children, as opposed to theSLI children who present more instances of what. Likewise, a correlation may be set inregards to the use of these wh-words in the two target structures: the TD children producemore wh-relative clauses, whereas the SLI children produce more wh-questions.
