The data collected are spontaneous and have beenselected from CHILDES. Data analysis focuses on three variables: referentiality, overtness and grammatical correctness; and the objective is to test the children’slinguistic production of sentential subjects, both overall and by developmental stages. The results obtained are in line with what previous studies have found: the childrenreveal an early consciousness on how subjects are used in English; and the childrenpresent some patterns in their subject production which could be related tocrosslinguistic influence from Spanish into English.
