To do this, two groups of L1Spanish-L2 English learners with different proficiency levels completed an acceptabilityjudgement task, where they judged different syntactic possibilities of prepositional verbsas opposed to phrasal verbs. The results showed that the different syntactic properties ofthese verbs were not entirely distinguished by the L2 English participants, and that in somecases this was due to their different proficiency level and not so much to their L1.
