The use of literary texts offers a great variety of topics and activities tomotivate students in the learning process. This project offers just one of many ways ofusing literature to teach, not only the language, but also the culture surrounding it. Thisthesis tries to prove the importance of using literary texts and the advantages it offers tostudents and to the teaching-learning process. Culture is also understood as an essentialpart of the learning of a language. Furthermore, the idea is presented that English goesbeyond Great Britain and the United States and students should be aware of that. Throughthe selection of four short stories dealing with different topics and showing specifichistorical and cultural aspects of different English-speaking countries, the presentproposal aims to present a way of working with all these elements with teenagers tryingto make them as open as possible to the differences and similarities found around theworld.
