Comic books, being more recentliterary texts, should always be selected according to some criteria (mainly regardingcontent and purpose), to avoid their becoming a hindrance instead of an aid. Theirspecific linguistic features and their use as gateways to more complex works are amongtheir best assets. The present proposal contains four sets of activities include comics inthe teaching of English, from easy-to-read strips to more complex narratives, andexplores different possibilities for their use as an encouragement for students to writeand speak.
