RT info:eu-repo/semantics/article T1 Las relaciones China-Italia: de la normalización diplomática al Memorando de entendimiento sobre la Iniciativa Cinturón y Ruta de la Seda A1 Rocha Pino, Manuel de Jesús A2 Universidad de Valladolid AB This research elaborates an analysis of the bilateral relations between the People's Republic of China and the Italian Republic from the normalization of their diplomatic relations in 1970 to the officialization of the Sino-Italian Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in 2019. Using an approach based on the liberal-institutionalism theory of International Relations, two structural characteristics are identified in the relationship: 1) the importance of economic and trade relations as a priority shared by both countries; 2) the recurrence to the use of an orientalist perception of diplomatic relations that can favor the creation of cognitive dissonances. Despite an eventual idealization of the relations, China and Italy have implemented mechanisms to maintain the promotion and stability of their economic relations (even if the prevailing international system at some point restricts them). The research analyzes a recent experience in this regard: Sino-Italian cooperation in the context of the Belt and Road Initiative and the tensions and opposition that it has caused in the institutional system of the European Union and some of its members such as Germany and France.
