It also analyses the possible relationship between thesesymbols to the most violent expression of institutionalized racism, police brutality. Mythesis is that police brutality of recent years (especially against African Americans) iscoupled with the usage and presence, to this day, of Confederate symbols linked toracism and slavery of the time. The dissertation offers a brief overview of the racism inthe United States of America from the 16th century to the present day with the murder ofGeorge Floyd. The dissertation concludes with a reflection on the problematics of thiscomplex and deeply rooted issue in American society.
