Recently, weshowed the presence of retinol-binding protein (RBP) within theE-CSF proteome.RBP is an all-trans retinol carrier, amolecule thatcan be metabolized into retinoic acid, a morphogen involved incentral nervous system (CNS) morphogenesis and patterning. Here we demonstrate the presence of all-trans retinol within theE-CSF and analyse the dynamics of RBP and all-trans retinolwithinthis £uid, as well as the expression of retinoic acid-synthesizingenzymes during early CNS development. Our results suggesta relationship between the dynamics of these molecules andthe early events of CNS patterning.
