The border itself has alwayspresented problems, as the idea of it just bringing political order is merely utopic, and ithas often been defied or even rejected when imposed. With the creation of borders, alsocome borderlands, a fuzzy area where cultures coexist and intertwine. In this study, theconcepts of borderlines and borderlands are explored and put into historical context, analyzing them along the works of two different authors: Thomas King’s “Borders” andHelena Viramontes’ “The Cariboo Café”.
