Due to Terry Jones’ passion for the Middle Ages, their work reflected thishistorical period not only in the characters but in their use of carnival comedy, which wasoriginated in medieval times and and became an essential element of their humour. ThisBA thesis provides an analysis of the comic representation of medieval social types inMonty Python and the Holy Grail along with a comparison between this film and TerryJones’ documentary Medieval Lives while considering a historical context with the aimof analysisng how the Middle Ages are presented in each work.
