AB The doctoral thesis 'Proposal for a Self-assessment model for Formal Education in Penitentiary Institutions (MAEFIP)' consists of the design of a practical model that measures and analyses the processes that occur between all the agents participating in the teaching-learning (management teams, professionals, inmates and relatives of prisoners) in formal education in prisons. Thus, based on the legislation that supports the right of prisoners to resocialization and education in Spain, the trajectory of formal education programs in different prisons in Castilla y León during the period 2015-2021 is analysed. In this way, it is inferred that education in prisons acts as a safeguard of the condition of being human for those people who have committed crimes. The self-assessment model for training in penitentiary institutions is finally planned under the parameters of the EFQM quality system to improve and homogenize all the training processes that help inmates' rehabilitation and insertion into society through tools such as flowcharts or process map. Based on self-awareness and the commitment of the entire organization to the principles of continuous improvement, this model is widely used by educational centers to manage excellence and the one proposed by the Ministry of Education is therefore considered appropriate for its use implementation in prisons. Ultimately, the application of the same will promote multiple opportunities so that, what is exposed through the self-assessment, does not remain only in a theoretical framework but that its results can be put into practice.
