AB Manta is a medium-sized port city in Ecuador, which experienced an enormous growth within the framework of the accelerated urbanization in Latin America in the last century, a process that influenced the development of larger cities and those that experienced a strong economic dynamism, attracting a large population.In this context, the need for new spaces and buildings to carry out urban activities has led to an accelerated increase in urban sprawl and difficulties in the development of localities that have been largely attributed to the urban sprawl. of the localities attributed in great part to the problem of land and its expansion.In this research, the aspects of urban growth since Manta acquired greater economic dynamism are examined in depth, in terms of the analysis of the evolution of its territorial expansion, the forms of land incorporation and the participation of the agents that have intervened in its current configuration.Through the treatment and analysis of official and field information and historical evidence, the changes produced in the city model over five decades are described.
